Critical Care Center
The Critical Care Center at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center
is part of 22,000 square feet of existing space adjoining
the Ambulatory Care Center remodeled in 2001. The new unit
was built to meet the future health care needs of people
in Northern Illinois and ensures that OSF Saint Anthony
Medical Center continues to provide high-quality care for
those who need intense around-the-clock attention. Many
patients are brought to the unit from our Level I Trauma
Center.
Amenities featured in each room include a television, extra
chairs and artwork. In addition, each room has a large
window to let nature brighten the rooms with light. The
new Critical Care Center has 19 private rooms and one extended
stay room that can be converted into a semiprivate room.
It is linked to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, creating
a seamless transition between what had been two separate
care areas.
Our Critical Care Center combines advanced design features
that benefit patients who need the highest level of care
and their loved ones. Each room is large enough to accommodate
state-of-the-art medical equipment as well as visitors.
Extra storage in every room means life-saving equipment
is within reach of our highly trained and experienced Critical
Care team.
One nurse cares for two patients and rooms are accessible
through full-sized sliding glass doors that can be closed
and have blinds that can be drawn whenever necessary. Even
when privacy is desired, nurses sit just outside the room
in a "V" shaped nurse’s station and are
able to look into the room through a window to monitor
the patient. In addition, a large centralized care station
provides specialty physicians and nurses an area to create
and implement treatment plans.
The team of physicians, nurses, allied health and other
healthcare staff work together as a team to ensure the
highest possible care is provided.
