West Services
Oncology care also takes place on 4 West, an adult
Medical/Surg/Tele/Oncology unit. For nurses
and clinical support staff, the primary
focus is to care for the physical, emotional
and spiritual needs of our patients and their
loved ones.
Providing
compassionate care is something we take
pride in.
Among the oncology services provided on 4 West
are the delivery of chemotherapeutic agents
and blood products
as well as care for postoperative radiation
seed implant patients, and patients receiving
other radiation treatment.
In addition, antibiotic therapy, wound
care and
pain management are important aspects of
our work. We work
in a collaborative
environment, and our contributions to our
patients, their loved ones and the medical center
are
appreciated.
Professional practice committees give staff
members a forum to improve care using a
team approach.
We also
provide
opportunities to participate in institutional
committees and task forces.
Educational opportunities for oncology
nurses include an internship program. This
three-month
paid program
combines
classroom learning and clinical experience.
In addition, nurses are provided with many
opportunities
to cross
train and gain knowledge and skills that
will make you a better
nurse.
