Pulmonary Services
The Pulmonary Services department is comprised of a professional
group of Respiratory Therapists and Assistants. They are
a close knit team working towards the goals of the OSF
mission. They excel at treating acute and chronic patient
situations. Services offered include general floor therapy,
assisting physicians with bronchoscopies, ventilators,
ICU, emergency room care, aerosol therapy, suctioning,
pulmonary function screening and patient education.
The department was named one of the nation's 50 best by
U.S. News and World Report in its annual Top Hospitals
awards.
A variety of ventilators can be found throughout the Medical
Center including Servo 900c, Puritan Bennett 7200 and Puritan
Bennett 840, Bipap Vision and Bipap S/T-D. Many opportunities
are also available for our staff to share their knowledge
and love for their field with the community and area students.
Many staff members have the option to work 12-hour shifts
and the night shift has the added benefit of self-scheduling.
Sleep Lab and Neurophysiology
Sleep Lab and Neurophysiology consists of Polysomnographic
and EEG technicians. They are a small but powerful work
team whose goals are to treat acute and chronic patients
with various diseases and disorders. EEG services offered
include EEG’s, Evoke potentials, and EMG’s.
Sleep Lab services include diagnosing and treating disorders
such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, the most common, Periodic
Leg Movements, Insomnia, or other various, less common,
disorders. Intense and detailed education is a goal that
each department strives for. In 2004, the newly remodeled
and expanded sleep lab opened, featuring four suites for
conducting studies and a large observations/workroom for
staff.
