Center for Life

Thousands of babies have been born at the Center for Life at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. But we don’t get caught up in numbers because we know that each baby and every family is special. Our Mission is to celebrate life and nowhere is that more evident than the Center for Life. As you read more about our facilities and programs, keep in mind you can call the Center for Life at 815/395-5226 or e-mail us to ask a question, get the name of a physician for obstetric or pediatric care or arrange a tour.

Your Comfort Matters
The Center for Life is more than a place where new life is welcomed into the world. It is a place where caring, dedicated healthcare professionals are available to provide support during your pregnancy, delivery and even after you return home.

We encourage family closeness and participation in every aspect before, during and after the birth of your baby. That’s why our spacious labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) suites allow you to labor, deliver and recover in an atmosphere that looks more like home than a hospital.

Each room is individually and beautifully decorated in soothing and pleasant colors. The birthing bed adjusts to individual birthing preference. There is even an adjustable recliner for fathers-to-be to nap on. Each private bath is equipped with a shower and luxurious jacuzzi, which can help relieve back discomfort during the early stages of labor and assist the healing process after delivery. There’s also a remote control television and VCR. C-section and recovery room care are provided by our staff in the Center.

Postpartum care is given in a private suite. It’s a place where family and friends can visit, relax and get acquainted. There is even a rocker so families can introduce their newborn to the joys of snuggling.

Our "rooming in" program allows you to have your baby stay in your room throughout your stay. You can also choose a modified "rooming in" plan where your baby stays with you during the day, but sleeps in out secured nursery at night. In addition to our regular nursery, the Center for Life features a Level II nursery for babies who need a little extra support and monitoring.
